I have a Nokia 6630 mobile phone. It has a memory card. It can play MP3. So, for me it is perfect for listening to podcasts.
Update: I have installed a third party MP3-player to enhance my listening experience. Link.
Update2 I have modified my Nokia headset to accept regular headphones.
You need:
1. A cellphone that can play MP3 and has a memory card
2. iPodder or a similar software
3. Windows Media Player 10
4. A card reader for the memory card of your phone
This is the basic concept:
1. iPodder downloads the podcasts I subscribe to into a folder on my PC:
C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\My Received Podcasts
2. Windows Media Player 10 syncs the podcasts to the memory card
3. I listen to the podcasts on my phone
How do you do it?
First:Install iPodder and start subscribing to some podcasts.

Then, start Windows Media Player 10
1. Make a new playlist for your podcasts:
Edit:If you are using ODEO Syncr it will automatically make a playlist for you simply called ODEO, you can skip this step, and choose the ODEO playlist when setting up the sync described in part 2 of this guide.
In the WMP 10 library, right click auto playlists and select "New…"
Name the playlist “myPodcasts”
Click where it says "Click here to add criteria"
Select "More…"
Select "File name"
You now have the text "File name contains <click to set>"
Click on <click to set> and type "My Received Podcasts"
Click “OK”
Now you have a playlist that will always contain all of your podcasts
2. All you now have to do is to sync this to the memory card of your phone:
Select the "Sync" tab in WMP
Insert the memory card into a card reader connected to your PC
In the dialog that pops up, select "Automatic" and be sure to check:
"Customize the playlists to be synchronized"
- (Ouch… I have not done that in the screenshot…)
Click next and add the playlist you just created: "myPodcasts"
Click "Finish" and WMP should sync all your podcasts on to the memory card
Insert the memory card into your phone and enjoy!

Oh, man - I thought this entry was going to be about how to directly download MP3s straight to one’s mobile device, through its wireless internet connection. Does anyone know of such mobile podcasting software? I have neither home internet access on a desktop these days nor a day job with office access, so my Palm Treo 600 is literally the only way I have these days to get on the web. I’d LOVE to find a way to just download podcast episodes straight to it without the need of a desktop at all.
I have been thinking about that. It would be soooo convenient to have a cellular that automatically and always was updated with my latest podcasts.
Of course, bandwitdh costs would be significantly higher when actually downloading through GPRS, EDGE or UMTS but I would actually be willing to pay for it because of the convenience…
I have contacted the developer of the Viking MP3 player for Nokia series 60 (mentioned in my post about MP3-players for the series 60) and they actually seemed interested in the idea of a podcast aggeregator for mobiles.
Also, maybe the guys over at Feedburner.com could make something. They have an RSS reader for some mobiles.
